Pre school
There are no rules about when your child must go it alone without their parent in the pool but generally around 3.5 years if they have had previous experience in Parent & Child classes they will respond better to a teachers instruction rather than their parents. Age appropriate activities, songs & games are essential elements of all lesson plans at this level.
NB. If your child is 3 years of age and has had no previous water experience we usually recommend that the first course of swimming be in a parent & child class. This also applies to any 4 year old preschooler who is very nervous around water or has had a previous traumatic water experience.

Parent and child
These classes are designed to teach you, the parent, how to teach your child to swim, beginning with relaxation & enjoyment of the water. Using songs & activities appropriate to their developmental age group they will develop balance, coordination & strength, all of which are fundamental basics for learning to swim.
- For babies & toddlers from 6 months old until they are ready to progress into a preschool class on their own.
- Held Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm .
- Maximum number of children per class is six
Please note that it is better for your child to have the same caregiver as much as possible in the water with them each lesson. Confidence and trust in their caregiver is important and results in more consistent performance from week to week.
